Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab launched Pakistan’s first Electric Bus Service for a sustainable and cleaner future. Commencing anti-smog and anti-congestion measures to ensure environmental and public health there will be 27 buses in Lahore initially. For the first time, the buses will run on a Railway Station to Green Town route. If the pilot scheme works well, more cities will be included.
The Chief Minister announced the fare will be Rs20 for regular passengers, while students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities can travel free of charge. Free Wi-Fi, mobile charging points and CCTVs are available in the buses. These modern facilities will ensure passenger convenience and safety especially for women. There are special Ramps for differently abled persons in the buses.

Maryam Nawaz also highlighted that the electric bus scheme would help to combat critical air pollution in Lahore. The plan also includes importing another 500 electric buses by August and introducing new mass transit systems in Faisalabad and Gujranwala. The commitment of the Chief Minister toward environment friendly transportation is in accordance with her larger vision for a sustainable Punjab, which is part of progress in urban mobility in parallel with environmental conservation.
