Ramadan is a blessed month of mercy, forgiveness, and freedom from Hellfire. Therefore, immediately after this holy month full of blessings, we are given the opportunity to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. It is mustahab (recommended) to express happiness on the day of Eid al-Fitr. Here are some Sunnahs to practice on the sacred day of Eid-ul-Fitr
1. Giving Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana)
It is obligatory for every Muslim who fulfils conditions of Nisab to pay Zakat al-Fitr on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Until Zakat al-Fitr is given, a person’s fast remains suspended between the earth and the sky.”
It is preferable to give Fitrana at early dawn before going for Eid-ul-Fitr.
2. Eating Dates Before the Eid Prayer
In Sahih-Al Bukhari, Hazrat Anas (may allah be pleased with him) narrated that our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) would not go for until he had eaten a few dates, and he preferred to eat an odd number of dates.
This Sunnah features the importance of starting the Eid-ul-Fitr day with something sweet.
3.Taking a Different Route
Our Beloved Master Muhammad (ﷺ) would go to the Eid prayer by one route and return by a different route.
This practice shows the efforts of our Prophet (ﷺ) to meet more people and share the joy of Eid with the community.
4. Wearing Good Clothes
Wearing clean and tidy clothes on Eid ul-Fitr is a recommended Sunnah. If a person can afford it, he should wear new clothes. Otherwise, wearing clean and neat clothes is also acceptable.
This Sunnah tells us that we should thank Allah Almighty by presenting ourselves in the best possible manner on this blissful day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
5. Taking a Bath (Ghusl)
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) narrates that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) would perform ghusl (ritual bath) on the days of Eid.
Bathing on the day of Eid is essential as it helps us to purify ourselves and prepare us spiritually and physically to celebrate Eid.
