Minister of information Punajb Uzma Bukhari held a news conference on 6 March in which she made an analysis of KPK (Khyber PakhtunKhwa) government and Punjab government performance.
She appreciated public friendly initiatives and reforms of the Punjab government and criticized the KPK’s government.
In the same conference she blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s supervision and KPK government for increasing the Bus Rapid Transit(BRT) Peshawar fare to RS510 while comparing it with electric buses fare of RS20 running by the Punjab Government.
She stated,
“Just before coming [to the press conference], I saw on a news channel that BRT Peshawar’s fare has increased from Rs110 to Rs510, and even that card must be verified by NADRA.”
Within hours a clip from her press conference went viral on social media. On virality, the public showed concerns and PTI’s supporters mocked her.
In response to her allegation, a spokesperson for Trans Peshawar, Saddaf Kamil, made a statement clarifying the matter.
She stated, fares of BRT are distance-based with minimum of RS20 for up to 5 kilometers and maximum of RS60.
She also shared official notification of fare structure for BRT issued by Khyber PakhtunKhwa Urban Mobility.
She also explained that RS510 is not a fare but a fee for BRT’s card, RS400 for card,RS100 for balance and RS10 for biometric verification from NADRA(National Database & Registration Authority).
