Pakistan unexpectedly closed Torkham which is a main overland border crossing that connects Pakistan and Afghanistan in commute and trade, leaving thousands stranded. Taliban representatives in Nangarhar said the closure had been announced by Pakistani authorities without any reasons officially.
Torkham is one of the main points for trade and people crossing, the blockage could further inflame the nerves between two nations. The unrest in crossing followed by the clashes between Pakistani security forces and the Taliban over border infrastructure since the Taliban took power in 2001.
Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban deputy chief minister for economic affairs, went to Uzbekistan on a high-level delegation to trade, investment and transit working level talks. Many delegations members including Baradar remained under UN travel sanctions who have got exemptions to travel due to their diplomatic purposes.
The Torkham border is still shut without any official notice of reason from Pakistan and there is a cloud of uncertainty in the reopening of that.
