Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a big initiative towards improving their partnership in the railway sector.
This initiative was signed during a meeting between Pakistan’s newly appointed minister of railways, Hanif Abbasi, and UAE’s ambassador to Pakistan, Ahmed Al-Tahiri.
UAE Ambassador Ahmed Al-Tahiri congratulated Hanif Abbasi on his appointment as the Federal Minister for Railways and wished him success. He also expressed deep condolences over the recent attack on the Jaffar Express, where terrorists attempted to hijack the train and also reflected deep sympathy with the affected families.
Pakistan’s Railway Challenges
Pakistan’s railway infrastructure has long suffered due to outdated tracks, locomotives, and weak safety protocols. Over the years, frequent accidents have highlighted the urgent need for modernization. The government is actively seeking foreign investment to revamp the sector, and this new collaboration with the UAE is expected to play a key role in overcoming operational inefficiencies.

Investment And Agreement Details between UAE, Pakistan
A series of agreements, totaling $3 billion, have been signed, covering railway infrastructure and economic zones.
One of the major initiatives under this partnership is the development of a dedicated freight corridor from Karachi Port to Pipri Marshalling Yard, spanning approximately 50 kilometers. This project aims to reduce congestion in Karachi and lower transportation costs.
