As the long awaited HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) X begins today in Rawalpindi, security in and around the city has been on high alert . Strict and foolproof measures have been taken by the police department. About 5,000 police officers are being deployed to maintain safety for the duration of the tournament, according to a police spokesperson.
The first match of PSL season 10 will begin on Thursday between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium followed by a grand opening ceremony. The six team tournament will be held from April 11 to May 18. The tournament comprises a total of 34 matches to be played in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.
Dolphin Force, Elite Force and traffic police officers have been deployed for crowd management and traffic management in and around the stadium.
All security arrangements are being headed by top functional bodies including Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa and City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani.
Fans must have to enter by walk through gates after full body search. A control room has been established for the surveillance of activity and crowd inside the stadium and in surrounding localities through CCTV and Safe City cameras.
IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi of Islamabad has chaired a high level meeting to finalize security for players. He stated that the players hotels will be strictly guarded and bomb disposal groups will clear and track all routes of movement.
Smart Safe City patrol vehicles, mobile jammers and security vehicles will also be part of the convoy.
