A suicide bombing took place at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has left at least five people dead and several injured.
Among those killed was Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) and son of the late Maulana Samiul Haq. The attack happened during the Friday prayers when the suicide bomber reportedly detonated himself at the mosque’s main hall just as the prayers concluded.

Authorities fear the death toll may rise as many of the injured are in critical condition. Eyewitnesses reported that Maulana Hamidul Haq was directly targeted.

“Five people have died and eleven others are in critical conditions. But still, fears have risen that the death toll might rise,” police officer Noor Ali Khan reported.
The bombings have drawn widespread condemnation from prominent Pakistani leaders including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The most recent attack raises fears of rising security threats in Pakistan’s KP region. Intelligence sources did say that no group has claimed responsibility but most of them suspect of having been taken into account by ISKP or its affiliates. It’s an ongoing investigation to identify those behind the deadly attack.
