Pakistan is hosting its first major multi-country cricket tournament – Champions Trophy – in nearly 3 decades – and is expecting the upcoming matches to help restore the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s tourism and investment landscape.
The Champions Trophy kicks off on February 19. Eight of the most successful cricket teams from across the globe, such as India and England, shall put it all on the line to grab the trophy. This elite tournament features one-day games.
The upcoming matches come against a backdrop of a political crisis in Pakistan. Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, also a prominent person in the cricket sphere, is in jail. Cricket is a national passion in many countries in the region.
Back in 2009, gunmen attacked a bus carrying touring Sri Lanka cricket players in Lahore. Six players sustained injuries. Security has dramatically improved since then in major urban areas, and cricket teams from abroad are touring since 2018.
7 teams are set to play their matches in Pakistan, except India. The Indian side is going to play all its matches in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, a neutral stadium. Keep an eye out for more details on the upcoming face-offs.
