A tragic accident on Monday night claimed the lives of four friends when their car fell into the Naseer Canal in Tando Allahyar district.
According to police reports the group was traveling from Karachi when their car lost control possibly due to speeding and plunged into the irrigation canal. Mirpurkhas SSP Saleem Shah confirmed that the bodies were recovered and transported to Karachi overnight.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Ahad Sheikh age 23 son of Mohammad Aslam Sheikh originally from Mirpurkhas but residing in Karachi.
Sameer age 21 son of Rizwanuddin Siddiqui.
Ali Shan age 26 son of Mohammad Iqbal originally from Sialkot but living in Karachi.
Adeel age 20 son of Mohammad Azam Farooqui.
Ameen Gul Odh who is a spokesperson for Tando Allahyar police stated that Abdul Ahad and his friends had rented a car to visit his cousin Asfand Leghari in Mirpurkhas. All four friends lived in the same neighborhood in Karachi. Locals mentioned that Sameer and Adeel were originally from Mirpurkhas Satellite Town before their families moved to Karachi.
After the accident local divers immediately jumped into the canal to recover the bodies. The tragic incident was widely discussed on social media by local residents.
A local resident named Punhal Narejo interviewed a shopkeeper who witnessed the incident. The shopkeeper explained that the accident may have occurred due to a design flaw in the road. The bridge over the Naseer Canal is a single lane structure while the connecting road is a dual carriageway between Mirpurkhas and Tando Allahyar. This sudden narrowing may have caused confusion for the driver.
