How to Temporarily Deactivate Your Instagram Account
If you need a brief break from Instagram, you can deactivate your account temporarily. This will hide your profile, photos, likes and comments until you sign in again to reactivate it.
- Open Instagram.com on your computer or mobile browser (this feature isn’t available in the app).
- Log in using your username and password.
- Click on your profile icon in the top right and go to Profile.
- Click on Edit Profile.
- Scroll down and click on Temporarily disable my account.
- Select a reason for deactivating your account from the dropdown list.
- Re-enter your password when prompted.
- Click on the Temporarily Disable Account button.
You can only deactivate your account once per week.
How to Permanently Delete Your Instagram Account
Follow these steps to permanently delete your account:
- Visit Instagram Delete Your Account page.
- Log in if you are not already logged in.
- Select a reason for deleting your account from the given options.
- Re-enter your password to confirm your identity.
- Click on the Permanently Delete My Account button.
You cannot recover your account or any of the data with it once deleted.
