Mehndi(henna) is a form of body art widely used for weddings, festivals and other special occasions. However the Mehndi patterns look gorgeous but getting rid of the mehndi from your hands could sometimes be a little challenging. There are multiple methods out there that will help you get rid of mehndi fast. The most efficient ways that we will discuss here.
Removing Mehndi Using Lemon and Sugar Pastes
It is one of the most widely used methods of removing mehndi. The lemon acidity lightens the stain while the sugar serves as a mild exfoliant.
In a small bowl combine equal parts of lemon juice and sugar.
Apply the paste on mehndi stain using a cotton ball or your fingers
Keep it for 10–15 minutes then gently scrub with fingers or a clean cloth.
Use lukewarm water to wash your hands and repeat the procedure if needed.
Not only does this method work to get a stain out but it also moisturizes your skin.
Removing Mehndi Using Coconut or Olive oil
Oils are also excellent for removing mehndi stains as they aid in breaking down the stain and hydrate the skin.
Put little olive oil or coconut oil on a cotton ball or a soft cloth.
Apply the oil on mehndi design in circular shape for around 5–10 minutes.
Then clean the same area with a dry cloth, followed by soap and warm water on your hands.
Do this 2–3 times a day until the stain is reduced.
Removing Mehndi Using Baking Soda & Water Scrub
It acts as gentle scrubbing action to remove the top layer of mehndi from your skin effectively.
Make a paste by mixing 1 tablespoon of baking soda with enough water.
Directly apply the paste on the mehndi stain and scrub gently in circular motion.
Allow the paste to sit for 5–10 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water.
Do this over and over some times to help reduce the stain.
It is a great technique as well but remember to moisturize thereafter as baking soda can tend to dry your hands sometimes.
Removing Mehndi Using Toothpaste
Another household ingredient that helps lighten mehndi stains is toothpaste. The mild abrasiveness of toothpaste serves to exfoliate the skin and fade the stain.
Take a generous amount of toothpaste (preferably white paste) and apply it on the stained area.
Leave it on for 30 minutes then rub the toothpaste gently over the skin and keep massaging for 1-2 minutes.
Allow the toothpaste to remain on the skin for 10 minutes then wash it off preferably with warm water.
Do it again if needed.
Use a non gel toothpaste for best results
Removing Mehndi Using Exfoliating Scrub
This can be a store bought or a homemade exfoliating scrub to move away dead skin cells and lighten mehndi.
Apply the scrub on the mehndi stain and scrub it gently for a few minutes.
Rinse well with warm water and repeat.
Exfoliating scrubs help remove superficial skin layers which leads to a quicker disappearance of the stain.
Removing Mehndi by Warm Water
This softens the skin around your hands and makes it pretty easy to rub off the mehndi stain.
Soak your hands for 10–15 minutes in a bowl of warm water (not too hot).
Gently scrub the residue of the mehndi stain using a washcloth or fingers
Rinse with water and repeat if needed.
When this is combined with other methods like applying oil or scrub exfoliation this method works best.
Removing Mehndi with Hydrogen Peroxide
You can use hydrogen peroxide which is a strong bleaching agent that also can help reduce dark stains of mehndi.
Soak a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide.
Place a cotton ball on the mehndi stain and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
Rinse with water afterward.
Do not keep it in for too long as hydrogen peroxide may often cause skin irritation.
Removing Mehndi by Using Pumice Stone
A pumice stone is a natural scrub that can help you with cleaning the top layer of skin.
Wet your hands, apply the pumice stone on Mehndi and scrub it gently.
Rinse off the residue and leave moisturizer on to make the area less prone to irritation.
Repeat the process if the stain persists.
