The Night of Qadr is also known as Laylat-ul-Qadr.It is a night full of blessings.
Allah Almighty mentions the greatness of this night in the Holy Quran:
لَيْلَـةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْـرٌ مِّنْ اَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
“The Night of Qadr is better than a thousand months.” (Surah Al-Qadr 97:3)
It is also the night in which Allah Almighty revealed the Holy Quran.
The exact night of Laylat-ul-Qadr is not specified but
it is narrated from Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“Seek this night in the remaining nights of the last ten days of رمضان: on the 21st, 23rd, or 25th night.” (Bukhari)
On this night Hazrat Jibreel and other angels descend to the earth and shake hands with those engaged in worship.
Special Acts of Worship on the Night of Qadr
There are great rewards for worship on this night.
A Hadith states:
“Whoever prays during Laylat-ul-Qadr with faith and sincerity, their past sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari)
The one who worships on this night is rewarded as if they have worshipped for one thousand months which is equal to 83 years and 4 months.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
Whoever recites:
لَآ اِلٰہَ اِلَّااللهُ الْحَلِیْمُ الْکَرِیْمُ، سُبحٰنَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِیْم
There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the seven heavens and the Mighty Throne), three times, they have attained the blessings of Laylat-ul-Qadr.
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (RA):
“I asked the Prophet (PBUH): O Messenger of Allah! If I find Laylat-ul-Qadr, what should I say?”
He (PBUH) replied:
“Say this supplication:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ العَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
(O Allah! You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me).” (Tirmidhi)
- Pray Nafl prayers especially Tahajjud.
- Offer Salat-ul-Tasbeeh if possible.
- Read the Holy Quran abundantly particularly Surah Al-Qadr, Surah Yaseen and Surah Rahman.
- Recite Dhikr abundantly such as La ilaha illallah, Alhamdulillah and Astaghfirullah.
- Give charity even if it is a small amount.
- Help the poor and needy.
- Make supplications as this is a night of acceptance.
- Make dua for forgiveness, guidance and protection from torment of hell.
